A couples massage is one room, two beds, two therapists, and the same hour running for both of you. That is the whole idea. It is worth saying early that it is not a cheaper way to buy two massages — it costs exactly what two separate bookings cost. What you are paying for is the room.
At May Breeze Spa the Couple's Signature Massage is $160 for 60 minutes and $240 for 90. The Couple's Deep-Tissue Massage is the same: $160 for 60 and $240 for 90. There is one couple's room, it takes one booking at a time, and we are open seven days a week on Plymouth Rd.
Who Actually Books the Couple's Room in Livonia
Most of it is what you would guess — anniversaries, birthdays, the weekend before a wedding, the first afternoon of a visit from out of town. The bookings that surprise people are the other ones. Two friends who have not had a free hour together since one of them had a baby. A mother and her adult daughter. Two sisters spending a gift card somebody bought at Christmas. Nobody at the desk asks what you are to each other.
It is also the booking people make when one person wants a massage and the other has never had one and is quietly unsure about it. Having someone you know on the next table takes most of the awkwardness out of a first massage. You are not alone in an unfamiliar room with a stranger, and there is somebody to compare notes with in the car afterwards. Guests drive in from around Livonia, Redford, Westland and Plymouth; if you have been searching for a couples massage near you, Plymouth Rd is the address.
A Couples Spa Day That Fits Inside an Afternoon
Sixty minutes is the standard booking and it does the job properly. Ninety is the one to choose if you would rather the hour not feel like it is running against a clock — the extra half hour goes into spending longer per area, not into covering more ground faster.
If you want a longer visit than that, the Massage & Facial Combination is 120 minutes for $160 — a full 60-minute Signature Relaxation Massage followed by a full 60-minute facial. It is not a couple's-room service, so two of you booking it means two separate appointments. Ask us when you book if you want them running at the same time, and we will tell you straight whether that day's schedule allows it.
What the Couple's Room Costs Over Two Separate Massages
Run the arithmetic yourself, because it lands differently depending on which pressure you book. A Signature Relaxation Massage on its own is $70 for 60 minutes, so two of them is $140, and the Couple's Signature Massage is $160. That is $20 more for the pair. At 90 minutes it is $110 each against $240 together, so $20 again.
Deep tissue works out level. Two 60-minute Therapeutic Deep-Tissue Massages are $80 each, $160 for the pair, and the Couple's Deep-Tissue Massage is $160. Ninety minutes is $120 each and $240 together. Same number either way.
So the honest version is: the room costs you $20 on the relaxation tier and nothing on the deep-tissue tier. Plenty of spa pages imply a couples discount and a few quietly add a surcharge, which is why it is worth writing the numbers down. What the $20 buys is scheduling — two therapists free at the same hour, in the one room built to hold two tables. That is the scarce thing, not the massage.
One Room, Two Different Sessions
You are not required to want the same thing once the door closes. Each therapist works from your own feedback: how much pressure, which areas get the time, which get skipped, whether you want the neck touched at all. One of you can ask for more pressure at minute twenty while the other stays exactly where they are. That happens constantly and it disrupts nothing.
The one thing worth raising at booking rather than on the table is if one of you wants a full deep-tissue hour and the other wants a light one. Tell us when you book and we will work out how to schedule it. It is an ordinary request. It is just far easier to answer at the desk than at minute five.
What the Hour Is Actually Like in the Couple's Room
Two tables set side by side, a sofa, a chandelier, and the lights low — the photograph at the top of this page is the room itself, not a stock picture of somewhere else. You each undress to whatever you are comfortable with and get under the sheet while the therapists are out of the room; they knock before coming back in. You stay draped the whole session, with only the area being worked on uncovered.
Mayo Clinic makes a point about massage that applies here more than anywhere else on our menu: the hands are only part of it. A quiet room, low light, unhurried attention and simple human contact are all doing work, and what people report most consistently in studies of massage is that their overall sense of well-being improved. A shared room adds one more ingredient to that, and it is the one people tend to remember a month later.
Notice what is missing from that list. Negative mood did not move. So if the two of you are booking this hoping to fix a rough month, set expectations accordingly — you will both leave calmer, and calmer is a real, measured effect, but it is a reset rather than a repair. The larger findings in that analysis came from a course of treatment over time, not from one good afternoon.
Can You Talk During a Couples Massage?
Yes, and it is nobody's business but yours. Some pairs talk the whole way through. Most talk for the first ten minutes and then stop without deciding to, which is usually the sign it is working. If one of you wants quiet and the other wants to chat, settle it out loud at the start rather than negotiating in whispers halfway through.
Booking the Couple's Room: What to Sort Out First
If one of you has never had a massage, say so to your therapist. A first massage goes better when the person giving it knows it is your first, and there is no version of this where mentioning it is embarrassing.
The usual disclosures apply to both of you: recent injuries, blood clots, pregnancy, blood thinners, anything a doctor is currently managing. Tell us at booking or at the desk. And if either of you has pain that is new, severe, or arrived alongside numbness or weakness, that is a question for a clinician rather than a spa booking.
- One couple's room means one booking at a time. Saturday and Sunday afternoons go first, and Valentine's and Mother's Day weekends go out weeks ahead.
- Arrive ten minutes early. The intake conversation happens per person, and running two of them after your start time eats into the hour.
- Book the pressure you each want, not the one that sounds more serious. Signature and deep tissue are both $160 for the pair, and both are full hours of work.
- Gift cards work for this, and the couple's room is where most of ours get spent.
- We are open until 8 PM Monday through Saturday, so this can be an evening out rather than a day off.
